Infrared Excess around

چکیده
We present ISOCAM 7 µm and 15 µm observations of 12 nearby white dwarfs, 6 of which have been found to have metals such as Ca, Mg and Fe in their pho-tospheres. Our purpose was to search for an excess of infrared emission above the stellar photospheres. We find that none of the white dwarfs other than G29−38 shows a detectable infrared excess and this places strong constraints on the existence of a dusty disk around these stars. We conclude that ongoing accretion of the interstellar medium seems an unlikely explanation for the existence of metals in the photo-spheres of cool hydrogen atmosphere white dwarfs. The excess associated with G29−38 is 3.8±1.0 mJy and 2.9±0.6 mJy at 7 µm and 15 µm respectively. The broadband spectrum of this star strengthens the hypothesis that the infrared excess arises from a disk of particulate matter surrounding the white dwarf rather than from a cool brown dwarf companion.

The Vega phenomenon around G dwarfs ?
In this paper, we present and discuss photometric infrared measurements taken with ISOPHOT at 60 μm for a sample of 30 G dwarfs, using C100 3X3 minimaps. This sample was selected from the set of more than 1600 G dwarfs which will be scrutinized for radial-velocity variations by the Geneva group, aiming at the detection of extra-solar planets. In our sample, 5 stars display an infrared excess at...
متن کاملInfrared excess and molecular clouds : A comparison of new surveys of far - Infrared and H I 21 - cm emission at high latitudes
We have created a map of the large-scale infrared surface brightness in excess of that associated with the atomic interstellar medium, using region-by-region correlations between the far-infrared and 21-cm line surface brightness. Our study updates and extends a previous attempt with the Infrared Astronomical Satellite and Berkeley/Parkes H I surveys. The far-infrared observations used here are...
متن کاملA 10 - Myr - Old Transition Disk
We present the mid-infrared spectrum, obtained with the Spitzer Infrared Spectrograph (IRS), of HD 98800, a quadruple star system located in the 10-Myr-old TW Hydrae association. It has a known mid-infrared excess that arises from a circumbinary disk around the B components of the system. The IRS spectrum confirms that the disk around HD 98800 B displays no excess emission below about 5.5 μm, i...
متن کاملun 2 00 7 EF Cha : Warm Dust Orbiting a Nearby 10 Myr Old Star
Most Vega-like stars have far-infrared excess (60μm or longward in IRAS, ISO, or Spitzer MIPS bands) and contain cold dust (.150K) analogous to the Sun’s Kuiper-Belt region. However, dust in a region more akin to our asteroid belt and thus relevant to the terrestrial planet building process is warm and produces excess emission in mid-infrared wavelengths. By cross-correlating Hipparcos dwarfs w...
متن کاملExtent of Excess Far Infrared Emission around Luminosity Class Iii Stars
With the Infrared Space Observatory, we conducted 3×3-pixel imaging photometry of twelve luminosity class III stars, which were previously presumed to have dust particles around them, at far infrared wavelengths (60 and 90μm). Eleven out of twelve targets show a peak of excess (above photosphere) far infrared emission at the location of the star, implying that the dust particles are truly assoc...
